About My Project

Hi, I'm Emma Cabrera, a student deeply passionate about the ways music can impact memory, emotion, and overall well-being. My current project explores music therapy as a non-pharmecurtical tool to aid in memory recollection in pateints with Cognative dieseases. I combine scientific research, hands on experiences, and personal story telling to create my Research Portfolio shown on my website.

About Me

Growing up, I spent countless hours with my grandmother, one of whom was later diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Seeing her struggle with memory loss was heartbreaking, but it also inspired me to explore how music could unlock memories, emotions, and connection even when words failed. I will always remember the one time I played some of her old favorite songs and my grandmother began singing tunes from her childhood with vivid clarity. In that moment I saw firsthand the power of music therapy and the hope and joy that came with its possibilities.

My Mission

My work integrates scientific research including medical journals and neuroscience studies, with personal experiences gained through volunteering at memory care facilities and conducting interviews with experts in music therapy and neurology. Through this project, I aim to understand how music affects memory and cognition, and how it can provide comfort, identity, and emotional connection for patients and their families.

I hope my work inspiries curiosity, emptathy, and a sense of hope for those affected by cognative dieseases.
